You need to have your own "portafolio". No sharing notes at all.
Follow instructions during the test: No talking at all / Be seated at all times / Raise your hand in you have any question during the test/ No dictionaries are allowed. / Please bring your portfolio to class, no pass to your locker to get it.
BREAKING THESE RULES WILL HAVE CONSEQUENCE OF GETTING "0" ON YOUR TEST.

SEMANA 18: DEL 6 AL 10 DE DICIEMBRE (DECEMBER 6 -10)

We will be working on the oral presentation: Un estudiante nuevo (a new student)You can use notes in practice, no during the role-play. You need to provide a copy of your conversation to your teacher before the presentation. This needs to be typed. Follow rubric as well. We have been doing this activity for the past two days (Thursday and Friday). Some of you have shown this script to me so I could do some corrections.

We will also be working on interrogative words like:
Que - What / cuando - when / por que - why...ect..

We will start working on vocabulary: cognates and false cognates

There is a three- page project due on Tuesday, November 9. It is about "Dia de los Muertos"
1st page: Copy paper: Colorful picture including 10 elements or symbos of this holiday. You will add one more element, your personal element. Remember you got the rubric for any graphic task last Friday. Please follow it. You also need to have the Spanish language integrated to this page.

2nd page: Notebook paper: 1. Explanation of this holiday - 10 lines 2.Reflection: a. What do you think about this holiday? b. Why did you choose that element? what does it mean? c. How would you celebrate it in America . This page is in English.

3rd page: Worksheet you got while you were watching the documentary.

- We will start a new chapter during this week. This chapter will be about VERB IR (to go) and vocabulary about places. We will learn how to express future events in Spanish but before starting this new topic, we need to review / revise some topics of the current unit.

- There will be  homework ( tarea) on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. We will follow the same format used during last week.

Lunes (Monday): Explain (in English ) what PERSISTENCE means. Give an example of a situation in the school where we need to be persistent.

Martes (Tuesday) No hay clase/ No class

Miercoles (Wednesday): Go online and find what "Dia de los Muertos" means and how people celebrate this day (at least 5 lines)

Semana 12: 25 al 29 de Octubre (Week 12 October 25 to 29) Palabra de la Semana: Caridad

La caridad empieza en casa // Charity begins at home

Agenda:
A. Periodos 1- 5
 We will write essays during this week. (Periodos 1 y 2 have to turn in it as homework on Monday, October 25). The rubric for Spanish Writing was handed to the students last Friday, so the students will follow it through the process of writing. Periods 4 and 5 will be working on this essay on Monday and Tuesday if necessary.
Write a 3 paragraph essay:
- Introduce yourself and your celebrety as a friend.
- Write about
a. nationality
b. description
c. likes and dislikes
d. hobbies
e. favorite color, animal etc.
f. what you do on weekends
g.what food and activities you do to keep you healthy
h. use these verbs: gustar, comer, compartir, vivir, estudiar, beber, hacer ejercicio, leer, practicar deportes, mirar t.v.
h. use adjectives at least 10.
i. Use vocabulary (food- cognates) seen up to now.
Importante:
- Write clearly
- No scratches are allowed
- Underline: blue - verbs, red- adjectives, green- vocabulary
- Useful words to use: y - and, pero - but, tambien- also
- Please SKIP  a line
Periods 1 and 2 will have another essay to do in class.

B. Periods 1-5: Test # 2. Students will use their own "portafolio" and dictionary to take the test. (I want to clear up that students will not share " Portafolios" or dictionaries. This test will be on Wednesday October 27 or Thursday October 28. It depends how much time students need to finish their essays.

C. Tarea (HW): There will be "tarea" everyday this week to be turned in every day:

1. Lunes, el 25 de octubre: Write a  5 line -paragrap about: La pizza: describe it, you can mention ingredients, say if it is good  or bad for our health, when you eat pizza most of the time, who you share pizza with etc.

2. Martes, el 26 de octubre: Write a 5 line paragraph about: ¿Como es tu mejor amiga? / tu mejor amigo (best friend) You can use same tips from the essay (above)

3. Miercoles, el 27 de octubre: Write a 5 line- paragraph about: Tu escuela ( your school) You can describe it, say what you do in school, what you like or don't like about the school, etc.

4. Jueves, el 28 de octubre: Write a 5 line- paragraph about: ¿Como es Bart Simpson?  (the animated character on tv): describe him, talk about what he does or doesn't like etc.

Agenda Semana # 8 (Week # 8):La constancia (Constancy)

Constancy means  being always the same. Why to be constant is an important characteristic of being a good student?

Agenda:
September 27 to October 1
We will continue studying the topic of adjectives for periods 1,2,4,and 5.
For Period 6 we will start numbers and dates.

Tarea (HW) Periods 1,2,4,5 Meeting Hispanic People during this month.
Go online and do research on this:

Importante: This assignment needs to be turned in on Thursday September 30 (No make up). You need to go online and do research. You need to write at least two lines for each one, describing their work or who they are.

Hispanic Heritage Month; Why Americans celebrate it?

The students had as homework last night to go on line and find what the media has said about this celebration:
Why Americans celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month?
The most common answer I found checking this homework (tarea) was the following:
Americans recognize the contributions of Hispanic American to the United States!!!

So my next assignment (tarea) will be: What are those contributions? (homework to turn in by Wednesday, September 22, 2010 )
